Our Review of the Baby Jogger City Select stroller

Taking 2 years to engineer, and winning the Innovation Award at the 2009 ABC Kids Expo, the Baby Jogger City Select stands alone as the only single-to-double stroller with 16 different configurations to suit your family.

Mix and match seats, bassinets, and car seats to customize your stroller. The City Select starts as a single stroller and converts to a double stroller with Baby Jogger's patented second seat attachment method.

Standout Features:

  • Add a second seat, bassinet, or car seat to make this Baby Jogger stroller a double
  • Accepts two infant car seats
  • One-step easy fold
  • Adjustable handlebar
  • Seriously roomy underseat basket
  • Hand-operated parking brake

Benefits for You: Customize the Baby Jogger City Select any way you like. Start with one kid and grow to two by adding the second seat, a car seat, or a bassinet. You'll need to buy the Second Seat Kit separately to use the stroller as a double.

Keep a diaper bag in the seriously roomy underseat basket. Baby Jogger made sure to design the basket so that you have access to your gear from just about any direction.

Folding the City Select stroller takes just one step - flip up the side levers with both hands and fold. The stroller latches to stay folded. The folded dimensions, while not umbrella small, are pretty compact for a full-size stroller. Not to mention its unique ability to fold with an additional seat attached.

The telescoping adjustable handle makes pushing comfortable for caretakers of all sizes. The handbrake offers easy stopping and keeps your feet pedicure perfect.

12" rear and 8" light weight dual front quick-release wheels with front wheel suspension make pushing one or two kids pretty easy. The team took this stroller for a spin and found it easy to maneuver even with two seats attached. And if that hasn't convinced you: the tires never go flat.

Compatibility: With Baby Jogger's easy accessory system, you can attach a Car Seat Adapter, Child Tray or Belly Bar Console, each sold separately. The City Select Child Tray and Belly Bar Console are not currently available, but will be coming soon!

The City Select accepts the following infant car seats. You'll need to purchase the Second Seat Kit along with the Car Seat Adapter to add a second car seat to the stroller:

  • Graco SnugRide
  • Graco SnugRide 32
  • Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30
  • Chicco Key Fit
  • Chicco Key Fit 30
  • Maxi Cosi Mico
  • Evenflo infant car seats

Benefits for Baby: With the Baby Jogger City Select stroller, baby sits wherever they like. Facing you, facing the world, up in a high position, or in a lower position.

When a new little brother or sister arrives, your big kid enjoys sitting in a full-sized seat while their sibling rides in a bassinet, second seat, or car seat. If you've been blessed with twins, the City Select keeps both kids happy with two full-sized seats (second seat sold separately), two car seats, or two bassinets.

The generous canopy keeps the sun out. And when your little one grows taller, the canopy adjusts up to create more headroom. The footrest adjusts to add support for little legs while he seat reclines for comfy naps (the second seat reclines, too).

Comparison: The phil&teds sport buggy has the option of adding on a sport double kit to transform the single sport into a double stroller. The sport has fewer seating options and does not sit two infants at the same time. The second seat on the sport is also smaller than the second seat on the City Select.

The sport buggy does come in at a slightly lower price point and features beefier pneumatic tires that handle rough terrain with ease.

If you like the look and features of the sport but want 4 wheels, check out the phil&teds hammerhead buggy.

Super sturdy, easy to maneuver (Bugaboo comparison)

Reviewer: Melissa B , Wappingers Falls, NY Date: February 10, 2010
We just received our Baby Jogger City Select and we are beyond impressed. We have a Bugaboo Frog as our single stroller but seeing that we are expecting any day now, we ordered this stroller with the Maxi Cosi adapters and second seat. You need to purchase the second seat even if you are just planning on using the car seat adapters at first. (You can save the seat and canopy for when they get to 6 months which I believe is the minimum recommended age for the seat).

The first thing I noticed as compared to our Bugaboo was the overall better quality. It was so super sturdy! I always felt the Bugaboo to be a tad wobbly and could tip over. This "tank" pushes as easy as a Bugaboo and manuevers just as well. The underneath basket is HUGE! Although I don't know how accessible it will be with 2 kids. The fold is a little clumsy as you don't need to remove the seats but it may be easier to remove them. It is heavier than the Bugaboo but definitely worth the extra weight! My 2yr old daughter is taller, 34 in. and she fits fine in the seat, especially helpful are the adjustable settings for the canopy, harness and foot rest. Oh, and she can wiggle right out of the Bugaboo harness but this one is much more "solid".

We just took our City Select for an ultimate test drive. A 3-hour walk to the park, around the neighborhood, through the snowy sidewalks of Boston. We have a 4 month old and a 2 year old who is 35" tall. Let me first say this my husband wouldn't even let me push the stroller he loved it so much. He was so impressed with the different variations of seating arrangements and the easy push. My toddler, who likes to walk sometimes, loves the fact that she can choose to ride forward or backward, hence wanting to ride in the stroller with her "special seat". The ride was so smooth, both kids fall asleep. The stroller pushes like a dream. Very easy to steer, even with one hand. Being a petite person, I was concerned about the weight and getting it into my Accord trunk. I have found that the seats pop on and off so easy that I take them off, put them in the trunk, then fold the stroller and put it in next. It seems to work really well. Also excellent features are the side parking break and the enormous under carriage storage. I was able to take it grocery shopping and used the basket underneath as my shopping basket. Concerns I do have are size of the seats. My toddler is in the 70% for height and she just fits so I am afraid she will grow out of it within the next year. We may take off the canopy to give her more head room. The other issue we had was when I went to put the canopy on one of the seats the plastic clip that attached the canopy to the stroller snapped in half. I called Baby Jogger and they are shipping me out a new one right away, because their customer service has always been that good. I think I might also try having the heavier child over the bigger wheels to see if that helps with the weight distribution. All in all we are very very impressed with this stroller. We really couldn't think of many negatives. It has pretty much everything you would ask for in its ingenious design. And so far, the quality, push, fold, etc all is in line with what I would expect from Baby Jogger.
