Our Review of the Baby Jogger Performance 20" Single stroller

You wanted the best, and you got the best; brought to you from the company that invented the jogging stroller all the way back in 1984. The Baby Jogger Performance Single is The Stroller for endurance running enthusiasts who place high demands on their jogging strollers. The Baby Jogger Performance Single, with three 20" wheels, is built on a precision one-piece aluminum frame that will never buckle or pinch.

The Performance Single has been the top choice in strollers for marathon runners and sprinters with kids since its release. Quite simply, it is one of the most stable, solid, and straight-tracking jogging strollers ever produced. It's really a running stroller, for serious athletes who need a jogger that is easy to push and will withstand mile after mile of wear and tear. With standout features like a 3-panel expansive sun canopy to protect your precious passenger, a V-Brake for better tracking and more responsive braking, and a quick release one step seat recline, both you and baby will enjoy the Baby Jogger Performance Single Stroller.

Note: Baby Jogger has discontinued the Performance Single 16". Baby Jogger now offers 16" wheels exclusively with Q Series Strollers.  20" wheels offer the best shock absorption and easiest push of any jogging stroller configuration, but those big wheels mean a BIG fold. Do not expect to get a folded Performance Single into your trunk without removing the wheels first.

The review posted below is from JoggingStroller.com's co-founder Bradley Sorock, who took a Performance Single out for a test run around his home in Minneapolis, MN.

Upon receiving my 2007 Baby Jogger Performance Single, it took me approximately 5 minutes from the time I took a knife to the box to set it up and hit the road; and that was without looking at the instruction manual (I hate those things).  It's lightweight, has big tires, and a slick, aerodynamic design. I took it around the lake on my rollerblades,* and was extremely impressed. Few strollers can go this fast while keeping your passenger safe and comfortable.
Now, let's talk details....
Pros:
Using the V-brake: Why doesn't every high-end running stroller with a handbrake use a V-brake?  With a walking stroller, you don't really need a handbrake.  When they do come in handy is while you're running down hill, and the V-brake makes a HUGE difference.  While pushing the Performance Single on rollerblades, I felt much safer.
Easy Push: Is it the light weight?  The smooth bearings?  The aerodynamic design? The 20" wheels?  Really, its all these elements working together.  This is, hands down, the smoothest stroller I've ever pushed.
Cons:
Setting up the V-brake: It took me some force and understanding to get them hooked up and aligned; Maybe 3 minutes out of the 5 total to set the Performance Single up. Someone who has never used a V-brake before may have some difficulty.
Basket: The underside basket is pretty small.  It's unlikely that you'll be running with a lot of goods, but anything large could fall out.

Bottom Line: For a runner, the Baby Jogger Performance Single is the cream of the crop.  It's like going back to the roots, where Baby Jogger started some 20 years ago: a stroller for RUNNING.  Innovation and technology keep topping old expectations, and jogging strollers keep getting better and better. I'm extremely impressed with the Performance Single, and am confident that any active runner will be too.

great for high level runner

My husband and I ran together at a Division 1 college and were wanting a jogger that we would be able to really run with. We have been very happy with our Baby Jogger. We have done fartleks and tempo's with it. It is best to find flat paved surfaces if you want to go fast though! I usually don't use the v-brake or even set it up. I have never needed it. I was worried when I purchased it that it would be too big. I own a dogde neon. The stroller comes apart really easily and stores perfectly in my trunk! I always leave it there! I was so happy to discover what a nice assemble/disassemble it had. The shocks are great and my daughter really loves it. Overall we are extremely satisfied and will never buy a different brand. Now we have to decide what to do because child #2 is on the way!

Top Notch Jogging Stroller, even with a mismatched

4
Reviewer: Roger , Killingly, CT Date: November 14, 2007
The stroller is absolutely beautiful and very well constructed. it rolls very smooth on a run, and I find it to be easy to maneuver. The brake is cool, but I haven't found need of it. The mesh net on the underside tends to ride down the frame and flatten out, but I don't really use it for anything. My daughter loves the seat, and often falls asleep in it if we're just out for a walk. She seems to likes it better than her regular stroller. Actually, My only reason for not giving 5 stars was that the front wheel arrived damaged. I contacted the company about the damage, and they were very helpful and promptly sent me a replacement wheel. Unfortunately the replacement wheel does not match the back wheels and it does stand out a bit. I was tempted to return the whole thing and order another one to have all the wheels match, considering the price of the jogger, but I didn't want to go through the hassle. In spite of the mismatched wheel, It is a great jogger which I would highly recommend. Although matched wheels would make it more aesthetically pleasing, and have earned it 5 stars.

There's nothing I can type to do this stroller justice and make you understand what a great product this really is. I'll just say it is the best gift I've given myself in a long time.

Best Runner out there

Reviewer: Anonymous , MInneapolis, MN Date: April 26, 2007
For running, on road, off road, trails, or anything... this is the absolute best running stroller on the market today. Side by side it pushes noticably and dramatically better, smoother, and with less effort than a BOB Ironman. The only advantage BOB has is the ease of folding, not that the BJ is hard to fold, but it's not like the BOB. I even put my 3 year old on my 7 year olds lap and walk a mile to the Bagel shop, they love it. Roller blading is actually safer in my opinion using this stroller with the V-Brake, as it allows me to manage speed on big hills and stop at streets. Also, a great height. Love this stroller.

Wow...

I have never had a jogging stroller before I bought this baby jogger. And I can say that I will probably never buy another one, because I am so satisfied with this one. Glad I did my research. This stroller is so sturdy. And with the independent rear-suspension it is a very comfy ride for baby, even on semi-bumpy roads, and smooth trails (that are wide enough). The multi-position sun canopy is awesome for sunset and sunrise runs. And the stroller is quiet (except the bottom cargo compartment when unloaded, which can be removed with ease). This stroller is ?for the avid runner? but is great for the average runner as well. My only disappointment (a slight one) is that to get to a water bottle you have to stop, bend over, and reach in the back storage bag. But I never ran with a water bottle before so why start now. There is a great compartment for wallet, and keys, and a cell phone, that zips shut so stuff doesn?t fall out. It rolls very straight once the front wheel is on correctly. And the brakes work well, and the parking break is amazing. If you are looking for the best jogging stroller (not a stroller that can be a jogger) you found it.

I've done the research, checked out everything from BOB to Kelty, and have found the single best jogger on the market. If your a serious runner like me, there isn't another jogger that beats the new Performance Series hands-down. The new brake is awesome, the fabic is great, etc...

Perfect!

I was trying to lose weight but didn't want to spend time away from my son by spending hours in a gym. This stroller was the perfect answer as most of my gym time is spent on a treadmill. It is so easy to push yet I can feel it working my upper body too as I jog along. It is so much cheaper than a gym membership and I don't have to waste time away from my son. I love it!

This is my first and only running stroller, but I did a bit of research before buying, as I am a marathoner with a baby in tow. I have not been at all disappointed. This is a solid piece of equipment and I have had no trouble on hour and a half runs on roads, gravelly trails, etc. If I could add anything to it, it would be a larger wind/rain screen for the child.
