Our Review of the Baby Jogger Performance Double 20" Double jogging stroller

Looking for the best of the best in a two-passenger running stroller? Here it is; brought to you straight from the people who invented the jogging stroller all the way back in 1984. Features include:

  • Dual 3-panel expansive sun canopies
  • V-Brake for improved tracking and brake control
  • One-handed, one-step seat recline for both seats

The Baby Jogger Performance Double is a serious dual-passenger jogging stroller built strictly for serious joggers. The Performance Double has big 20" aluminum spoke wheels on a one-piece, precision-machined aluminum frame. Quite simply, the Performance Double offers unsurpassed performance for runners who demand it.

While many double strollers flex or twist when loaded with two kids and pushed to the limit, this double's lightweight yet high-strength one-piece aluminum frame offers stability, straight tracking, and a smooth push over all kinds of terrain, even at top speeds. Although the Performance Double does not offer a suspension system, its 5-point harnesses, 20" wheels, and thickly padded seat assure that your passengers won't get shaken up, no matter how high the speed. The new addition of a V-brake improves rider safety by making the Performance Double much easier to stop, which is especially important when you have the combined weight of two passengers.

The Performance Double's dual floating sun canopies and individually reclining seats (with one handed adjustment) make it simple to provide custom comfort for each passenger, which improves your chances of getting through a long distance run uninterrupted.

Bottom Line: The Baby Jogger Performance Double is as good as it gets for runner-oriented double strollers. Sure, there's no parent tray, and some strollers offer more storage space, but who needs 'em when you're training for a marathon? If you're truly serious about your fitness, and like pushing yourself and your stroller to the limits, the Performance Double cannot be beat.

Great for Running with Twins

5
Reviewer: Stephanie , California Date: July 31, 2010
I love my performace double. I have 2 year old twins and this was perfect for running down the bike path with my boys. I did have to true the front wheel and adjust the break. It is easy to fold, eventhough it not compact. This stroller is easy to push, and was comfortable for my boys. I was running 6-8miles 3-5x per week. (I now need a tripple because I have an 3mo old as well). I think it was perfect for my use on a bike path, I also kept it set up in the garage so I rarely have to fold it. If you are in the market for a jogging stroller for two kids this one is ideal.

Great for larger kids!

I bought an older model nearly 3 years ago and I LOVE it! I've trained for 2 full marathons and one half marathon with it through all types of weather and I have never regretted buying it. The main reason I chose this one was bacause of the maximum weight allowance of 150lbs. I now have three children aged 5 years to 9 months so having that extra 50lbs of capacity means that I can let my 5 year old AND my 3 year old ride in it (with all their gear) without being concerned about overloading the frame. And even with the extra weight, it still rolls like a dream. If I had to lodge any complaint at all it would be that while having the centre of gravity is so far forward makes the stroller VERY stable, it also means it takes a lot of arm strength to lift the front wheel for sharp turns. Luckily I'm tall enough to be able to lean on it if I need to but I often wonder how easy it would be for a shorter person to maneauver it.

Poor quality

Reviewer: Kelly Pezzella , Minneapolis, MN Date: March 13, 2010
Just tried our double stroller for the first time, and it is not aligned. The stroller pulls to one side with our 2 kids in it, and empty. The front wheel is visibly crooked in the frame and the frame appears to be tilted. It is very hard to push 60 lbs of kids while trying to compensate a mechanical pull of the stroller. We have a single Baby Jogger which we have used for several years with no problems and it was very high quality. We even tried the single wheel on the new double, and the frame is for sure misaligned. Now we are going through the ardous process of trying to return something that doesn't even fit in our car. Would definitely recommend considering other options at this point.

Two years, 1000+miles, and STILL GOING!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Keizer, Oregon Date: October 25, 2009
I bought the older version of this model over 2 years ago and it is still going strong. My boys are 2 and 4 now, and I have LOVED this stroller everyday since I purchased it. I run 10-15 miles/week with the boys (30+/week total). I had a dreamer design single and it was fine, but I wore it out with less use in less time than my Performance Double. The 20 inch wheels make a big difference. For serious runners, there is NO alternative than the 20 inch performance model! No, it doesn't fold as small as others, but I have still traveled with this before. It does fold from top to bottom with the wheels off, just not right to left. I run in all weather and the rain cover works great and keeps the boys fairly warm (we've been through rain, snow and freezing rain, too.) If you want a strength-training workout, just push it against the wind in the winter - nothing is better! If you can swing the price, you won't regret it.

Great Stroller!

After much debate on which double jogger to purchase I decided on the baby jogger performance double rather than the dreamer design ditto. As an owner of the DD rebound single I was sick of the pulling to one side. I run a lot of miles and can tell right off that this stroller is rock solid, made of quality parts, and balances easily with just one 30lb kid on either side! I am more than satisfied with my decision! Thank you baby jogger!!

Great Stroller!!

Reviewer: Val , Port Richey, FL Date: April 04, 2008
I love this stroller!! The 20' tires make a huge difference when going for a long run. I was little weary of buying this stroller, because everyone kept saying how huge it was. I don't think it is all that big--it does fit through a door way (my front door) and fits on our tiny little sidewalks in FL. My girls were comfortable and happy to be sitting side by side. Great for a serious runner!!

Great Stroller

Love this stroller. I have had the dreamer design double and this one. I like the dreamer design, also, but it wasn't as stable. The 20" wheels make a huge difference in running performance and fatigue reduction.

Perfect for the right runner

Reviewer: Anonymous , Washington, DC Date: October 07, 2007
We ordered and assembled this stroller, but decided to return it. It is an amazing piece of equipment--extremely well made, lightweight, easy to push, has great features--but it is a BIG stroller. We live in a row house and run on city sidewalks and a popular bike path. This stroller just won't work in a situation like ours. It wouldn't fit out our door, and I'm not sure where we would have stored it if we kept it. It is also not at all compact when collapsed. I used my single Baby Jogger for trips to the park and neighborhood walks as well as running, but this one is just too big and hard to steer for these uses. It would be perfect for an avid runner in a suburban or rural setting where space (both in your home and where you run) is less limited.
