Our Review of the Chariot Cougar 2 bike trailer

The Chariot Cougar is the best-selling Chariot multi-function child transportation system, and it's not hard to see why. The two-child version of the Cougar, the Cougar 2 displays all the most popular features: aluminum spoke wheels, plenty of storage compartments, and a super comfortable child seat - with a soft seat back, padded seat bottom, and plush harness straps.

The adjustable suspension system is the key feature - it's extremely responsive, easy to adjust, and requires no maintenance. This means smoother rides for your passenger(s), as well as for you - the shocks absorb the force of jarring bumps and jolts, rather than letting it bounce the chassis around.

When not in use, the Cougar can be folded down into a tidy bundle for storage or transportation, using Chariot's patented "ezFold" design, which auto-locks open or closed, and doesn't require fiddling around with any pins. The Cougar, like the Cheetah and the high-end Chariot CX 2, can function amazingly well in any of 5 different modes - cycling, jogging, strolling, skiing, or hiking. Simply add whichever CTS Conversion Kit you want to the Chassis with the no tools required VersaWing™ technology.

Safety comes first on the Chariot Cougar:

  • Energlo® glow-in-the-dark fabric ensures ultimate nighttime visibility.
  • Foot activated parking break
  • Superior suspension
  • Shoulder harness

Important Note: All X-Country series Chariots (Cougar, CX & Cheetah) are sold as a Chassis - in order to use it, you will need to purchase at least one CTS conversion kit. Conversion kits can be purchased separately or ordered together with the chassis, using the dropdown order menu at top right of this page.

L-O-V-E IT!

Reviewer: Cristina , Los Angeles, CA Date: April 09, 2008
We purchased this trailer earlier this year as both my husband and I love to cycle on the weekends. The trailer fits our 18 month and 4 year old great. The adjustable suspension is fabulous. This is especially great for us since our son weighs twice as much as our daughter. Lastly, I love how easily it collapse for storage and the ease of adding and removing all the wheels. My kids love it so much that we can go riding ALL day. Although it's an expensive trailer, it's worth it if you enjoy cycling and you want to bring your kids with you.

Cougar 2 bike trailer

Reviewer: Harmony , Rancho Cucamonga,CA Date: March 14, 2008
We love this jogger/bike trailer!!! I mostly use it as a jogger with the strolling wheels. We have had it for a month or so and I use it at least 5 days a week. We have a 6 month old and a three year old both kids fit great and love it. I will recommend this product to anyone I know that is having babies!!! We wish we would have heard of it sooner. Also it is expensive but made very well and worth every penny. It is the lightest double stroller that I have seen and is even great for the mall.

Worth Every Penny!!!

Reviewer: MarcD , Washington DC Date: March 04, 2008
We reviewed every trailer we could find on the market. The Chariot won hands down!!! The safety, multi functions, and style put it over its competition. We have used it as a bike trailer for my 2 y/o daughter and 3 y/o cousin and they had plenty of room and had a blast. We also have used it as a stroller with my 7m/o with her sister and, again it's better than our big clunky double stroller. The baby even fell sound asleep in there she was so comfortable! I have been extremely happy with this product and you will be too! It is worth every penny and the family enjoyment is endless!

Helped us integrate our twins into our active life

5
Reviewer: Anonymous , Orford, NH Date: October 23, 2007
When we found out we were having twins, we very excited, but concerned about maintaining our active outdoor lifestyle with such a brood. The Chariot has made this possible. Before the Chariot, we were confined to walking with a traditional Graco twin stroller on paved roads-which are not very abundant or pretty where we live. With the Chariot, we can stroll with our children and dog on all the great dirt roads in our area. The Chariot is feather light. The double wide version is large and necessitates being taken apart to fit in my small station wagon. However, this is very easy to do. We started our twins in the Chariot at 4 months-old without any of the advertised additional baby support add-ons. They really enjoy the ride and spend lots of time looking up at the trees and sky above them. We look forward to adding the bike trailer attachment next Spring and starting that family tradition. I recommend this product without hesitation. Yes, it is expensive. But we rationalized that we will not have to purchase another piece of gear in the form of a bike trailer when they're ready for that adventure and we see it as an investment in our own sanity as well as mentoring the healthy habits we want to foster in our children.

Completely Satisfied

Reviewer: Anonymous , Aliso Viejo, CA Date: October 04, 2007
I am completely satisfied with this product. Both our children are happy and comfortable riding in it together with 1 of them in a standard seat and the other in the baby sling we purchased. I have taken it on off road trails as well and find it able to withstand moderately sloped trails while providing my oldest child with a comfortable and enjoyable ride. I would purchase the product again and recommend it to others considering the purchase of a 2 person trailer.

Great tool for family outings

Reviewer: Anonymous , Columbus, Ohio Date: September 10, 2007
We invested in the Cougar after careful review of all available trailers on the market. We purchased the 2 seater in the hopes that we eventually will fill the second seat. In the meantime, our 20 month old son occupies the back solo. The Cougar has exceeded our expectations. We were disappointed with all the attachments that we had to buy, but are happy that the Chariot line has such features. We have taken our trailer to 4 states in the last 4 weeks and have had NO problems whatsoever. It has been a breeze to load in the car, use as jogger, stroll around urban and suburban settings and is a fantastic bike trailer, which is why w originally purchased it in the first place. Our son enjoys his time in the seat. If it's not too windy, I can hear him singing away in the back. It can get quite heavy, though, if you load it up with gear (camera, picnic, blankets, food, water, diaper bag and the baby and his toys). I tend to pull the trailer behind me, not my husband, and I get a killer workout. Hills are tough, but doable. I think we're pulling an extra 50 lbs when it is all said and done. I'm nervous for when we add a second child that I won't be able to pull the trailer unless I'm in IronMan shape (which I've never been), so we'll cross our fingers. Bottom line, we have loved every minute of using this. It's definitely the limo of bike trailers. Our son loves it and so do we.

Get what you pay for.

No question, no reason to buy any other brand. This is the best carrier on the market. I'm so glad I did not buy the first thing I looked at. This is a much higher priced unit than some others, but there is NO QUESTION you get what you pay for. My Grand Daughter loves it, as does my daughter. This is so well made, it will be used for many more Grand Children to come. Bought with the bike and stroller conversion. Can not go wrong. Great INVESTMENT.

We go everywhere with this thing

Funny- I just got home from a 1hr bike ride w/ the Chariot to find a request in my email to send in a review. We've had the unit for about a month and totally love it. We bought the jogger attachment, bike attachment, and infant sling for the unit. We have a 18 month old, and a 1 month old. As a stroller, this is the best we've ever tried. We gave away our Zooper after getting this. Pros: lots of room for the kids. Smooth ride. Turns on a dime / very maneuverable. Good amount of storage. Sun shade works. Looks good. Cons: big and heavy - we have to take everything out of our SUV to fit this in the car. Really, it's huge. The unit sucks as a jogger. It's just too heavy when compared to a dedicated jogger. Tires are a bit thin. We had a flat on day #2. I patched the tube and put in tire liners. Haven't had a problem since. It seems bogus that you have to pay extra for the hand brake. Overall: This is a solid unit. We bought it on the Internet and we're very pleased with quality and features.

I Love this thing...worth the money!

This trailer is well thought out and very well put-together?I?m glad I decided to buy a higher quality unit (aluminum frame). I opted for the jogging and bike trailer kits and both work great, and converting back and forth is a cinch. I was suspicious about the ?suspension? system but I must say it is simple, maintenance-free and really nice to have- keeps the ride nice and smooth. So far my 1-year old seems to love it and the sun-screen/weather covers are also very helpful keeping the little guy out of the sun. I was also surprised at how easy the trailer is to pull with bike, considering it weighs in at 50+ pounds with 1 passenger. Only long or steep hills were a challenge, as was the gusty OuterBanks winds. An added benefit is that if I am pulling the trailer my wife can keep up with me on her bike and I still get a great work-out! I also found out very quickly it is difficult to pedal while up out of the saddle (standing), lots of bobbing and inefficient movement. You basically have to stay seated and keep a nice smooth pedal stroke to prevent too much bobbing action. I happen to think this is a benefit as pulling the trailer will help you learn to pedal more efficiently and smoothly. Traveling with the Chariot- it does fold ?flat? but you still need to deal with the various wheels, bars, handles, etc so a fairly large zippered canvas bag with some towels to protect the rims did the trick. Once bundled up, the ?bagged? accessories fit nicely inside the flattened Chariot. The entire rig took up a good bit of space in the rear cargo area of our Honda Pilot, but even with suitcases, baby gates and bike gear it was fairly easy to deal with. If you are considering buying a trailer buy a nice one with good features, like the helmet-pocket, no tools to change attachments, suspension, etc. I was concerned that the Cougar did not have an adjustable seat back but it really does not seem to be a big deal...my son has no problem nodding off when we are on the move. I would absolutely buy the Chariot again. I would also highly recommend the shipping insurance! The first one that arrived at my door had not been packaged properly at the factory and the plastic side windows were damaged (cut). Other than getting the box to a FedEx center the return was a breeze and the biketrailer.com customer service people were friendly, helpful and all around nice to talk to. No questions asked I had a new one sent ASAP and was VERY thankful I paid the extra few bucks for the insurance. I can?t wait to show up at he next local bike race or triathlon and have all the other parents drool over my sweet set-up!!
