Our Review of the Kelty Speedster stroller

The Kelty Speedster jogging stroller is a durable, affordable, and reliable jogger from the child transportation engineers at Kelty. The Speedster rides on a light and tough aluminum frame that will last through years of use.

Benefits for Mom and Dad

Fitness oriented parents who need a reliable stroller for running and jogging - but aren't ready to shell out an arm and a leg - should find the Kelty Speedster quite to their liking. It's stable 16" wheels offer excellent tracking, the 20 lbs aluminum frame is durable and nimble, and the high weight capacity of 70 lbs. means that you'll be free to run and jog with your child through much of his or her early development.

The Speedster is an affordable investment in your health with a guaranteed return - you just have to get out there and go. Kelty backs every stroller with an excellent warranty, and their customer service is second to none.

Convenience: While you're outside and on the go, the Kelty Speedster allows you to bring along all the essentials (and some extras) to keep your pockets free of clutter. There's a small storage pocket on the seat back (with a key fob) for your keys, phone, and wallet, as well as a large underside storage bin for bigger items like a diaper bag or picnic lunch. When you run is through, the simple folding mechanism and quick release wheels make storage in your trunk or closet quick and easy.

Benefits for Babe

The latest version of the Kelty Speedster has most of the amenities a kid needs to enjoy the ride while mom or dad gets some exercise. The contoured seat is padded and deep, equipped with an extra-comfortable adjustable 5-point harness, and the sun canopy is even bigger than before.

Comfort: The Speedster is equipped with one of the finest 5-point harnesses on the market, thoroughly padded and fully adjustable for kids from just a few months old all the way up to 70 lbs. The sun canopy is bigger than before and retractable to provide the ideal amount of shade, and there is a footrest and fender above the lead wheel to prevent water or road muck from splashing on your child.

Safety:

  • 5-point safety harness
  • 3M reflective tape
  • Wrist tether
  • Parking brake
  • JPMA Safety Certified

Nice stroller, bad brake design

Reviewer: Jim , Milwaukee, WI Date: May 11, 2009
Have had one of these for 2 years. The parking brake has a design flaw. If there is not above average care taken locking parking brake when you want stroller stationary to get child in & out, the plastic brake will snap. It's clearly a design flaw. Probably why Kelty replaces them for free if you call Cust Service. We loan our stroller & have sitters. We've replaced each brake several times since new. Other than that design flaw [which is primarily a convenience factor], we like the stroller.

Good, Although Not Wildly Impressed

My husband and I (both runners/walkers) researched jogging strollers for months before purchaing one for our son. Having owned and enjoyed many Kelty products, we decided to go with this stroller. We have been using it well over a year now, so I can honestly say that while it's done the job, i haven't been wildly impressed. The wheel brakes both broke within a few weeks of using, and we have not been able to replace or fix. the handbrake still works, so we have that, otherwise I wouldn't have used it for safety reasons. It has a smooth ride though, our son enjoys looking up through the window and the harness is very easy to adjust. The stroller's colors look sharp too, and we have gotten many compliments. As for running, we use it daily, about 3-5 miles per day. It folds fairly flat, but to fit in our trunk, we have to take off the wheels. Overall, I would choose another stroller, because for $260+, you want something that you love.
