Our Review of the Mountain Buggy Urban Double 2007 stroller

The Mountain Buggy Urban Double Stroller is one of the narrowest side-by-side double baby strollers on the market. With dual up front swivel wheels, the Urban Double offers great stability. This configuration is ideal for maneuvering in tight spaces – an all too common experiences in the urban jungle! At only 29" wide, this double stroller fits easily through standard doorways and maintains a relatively low profile—without compromising seat size.

Each seat of the Mountain Buggy Urban Double stroller reclines individually, down to a mere 15 degrees off horizontal, so that both your passengers can relax in their own fashion. The Urban Double also folds up easily and re-opens in a flash. Since this is a double stroller you may have some difficulty getting it into a smaller trunk, but the 12" wheels are much easier to manage than the 16" or 20" tires of a jogging stroller.

The Urban Double, like all Mountain Buggy strollers, is not suitable for serious running. The 12" wheels and front swivel action just won't give you the control and shock absorption while jogging that larger, fixed wheels will. However, since 12" tires are air filled, don't rule the Urban Double out for "power walking" or the occasional light jog. It is amazing how much they smooth out the ride; a huge step above the cheapo rubber and plastic wheels of everyday umbrella strollers.

Be sure to check out the robust line of Mountain Buggy stroller accessories, as they are outstanding and unique.

Bottom Line: There is no denying that the sticker price for the Mountain Buggy Urban Double is high. Imported from their point of production in New Zealand, all Mountain Buggies feature a remarkable attention to detail, and their quality is hard to beat. While these details do not necessarily come through in an image, a side-by-side comparison between a Mountain Buggy double stroller and other, lower-priced strollers is a sure shot. The fabrics, frame, and features offered with Mountain Buggy strollers like the Urban Double confirm their excellent reputation.

Like it so far

I just got my MBUD today, and had to test it out right away. My first impression is that the sun shade is a joke! It does not stay up at all, and does nothing to keep the rain or sun off of their faces (we live in Seattle, so we have more experience with rain than sun!). Other than that, it's a dream! My husband was doing donuts in the parking lot with it. Very smooth handling, very easy to push, and of course it turns on a dime. The storage compartments are great. I can't wait to take it to the zoo!

Fabulous stroller

Reviewer: Anonymous , Midwest, Wisconsin Date: February 23, 2008
My MBUD is SO heavy-duty, and it fits through doorways... and it accomodates very well my tall 5 yr old and 3yr old... It is heavy/bulky to load and unload, but it's definitely worth it for the ease of pushing, sturdiness, inflatable tires, etc. We've used ours mostly walking to the parks, library, farmer's market, in airports (definitely go this route and get at the gate check-in of the stroller... it's so nice to have the children contained in the airports ). We've been walking with ours in Portland, Maine and San Franciso, CA, but mostly the midwest! I'd love to know how many miles we have on it...

Twins cruising along!

5
Reviewer: Victoria Sileo , Myrtle Beach SC Date: November 14, 2007
My daughter received this double stroller from the twin's godfather while living in NYC and has had only wonderful journeys with it. It is easy to fold up and put in the back of the Caddy SUV & Jeep as well as take out by a petite woman of 5'2'' such as myself. It also fits in my Saturn SL trunk. It is easy to scrub clean with a brush, bucket of soapy water and garden hose in the back yard. The tires are easy to pump up with air and if need be replace. She did for a nail punctured one while in the Park. I too have taken my grandchildren on many a walks through several NYC Parks which have both asphalt & grassy terrain. My grandson & granddaughter turned 2 in Oct 07 and I am purchasing a new canvas interior and undercarriage for this wonderful unit. When the twins were 8 months my daughter moved back to her home town upstate New York to raise the children: a small Victorian Village on the Hudson River. A stay at home mom, she power walks several times per week with kids in the double stroller and loves the undercarriage to carry all the twin's necessities while out & about in town, stopping at the market, the YMCA the park, the library & the river to feed the ducks. The only comment I can say to make this stroller even better is develop a canvas that doesn't fade from 2 years of sun and weather exposure! We hope to have this unit for another 2 years! The Twins, the parents and grand mother love this unit and recommend it highly!!Standing Ovations to Mountain Buggy Stroller. From the twin's "Mima" littlepocco.com

Great Stroller

Reviewer: Anonymous , McLean, VA Date: September 30, 2007
I have the 2006 Urban Double and even after using it for a year, I still love this stroller. It is very easy to push, even on grass and uneven surfaces. My 3 year old is quite tall and he still sits comfortably in the stroller. The fact that it fits through standard doorways and is so easy to turn means that it works very well in malls and shops. I have had no issues with tires deflating and only pump them every few months. I agree that it is heavy and difficult to load into a vehicle, but I'm not very large and load it without too much effort. Also, it has plenty of storage. The things I don't like are: - The brake is very difficult to engage and disengage when wearing sandals because it's just metal with no plastic covering. - The canopy does not stay up very well. - The little strap that you use to secure the stroller when folded is difficult to find when the stroller is folded up. (It's black and my stroller is dark blue)

Good maneuverability, problems with hood

Reviewer: Anonymous , San Francisco, CA Date: September 12, 2007
This stroller is quite nice, except for a couple things: the sunhood doesn't stay on, and the stroller is quite bulky and heavy. I also bought the twin bassinet, and have the same problem with the hood - it falls when there's a smallest bump on the road. It can get quite annoying - you have to fix it every several minutes. I didn't expect to have this problem in such an expensive stroller.

Good Investment

Reviewer: Anonymous , Lexington, KY Date: August 26, 2007
So far so good with the stroller. We are using it for a newborn and a two-year old. Our toddler enjoys the smooth ride and he doesn't have any problems napping in it. The stroller is easy to maneuver in both open and tight spaces - I can push it with one hand and it turns on a dime. It's quite easy to open and close, though it is heavy and bulky, as far as lifting it into the back of my SUV. But it is a double, so the weight and bulk are par for the course I suppose. My only frustration is that it seems like we have to pump the back two tires nearly every other time we use the stroller. It's not difficult to do, just a bit of a hassle.

Love the stroller, excellent manuverability. What I dislike is airing the tires. The nozzle does not stick out far enough from the tire on 3 of four wheels making adding air quite a challenge. I think it is a tire defect and while I should have sent them back, I did not want the touble of doing so. I had to take the tires to a local biclcle store and have them pull out the air nozzle so we could fill it up. When I tried at home to pull them out, the nozzles kept sinking back into the tires thus making it impossible to fill. I think they were not assembled correctly at the plant. Very anoying considering the price of the stroller. I suggest you fill the tires before you ship the stroller then you will be aware of the tire defect in advance and it won't be so frustrating to your customers.
