Our Review of the Schwinn Mark III bike trailer

The Mark III is just below the Joyrider in Schwinn's hierarchy of bike trailer / stroller conversions. The size, weight, and features of the Mark III are essentially identical to the Schwinn Mark II but with one major exception: the Mark III comes with a 16" fixed front wheel kit, making it a functional jogging stroller in addition to its primary purpose as a bicycle trailer. The Mark III also comes with different fabric colors than other Schwinn bike trailers.

Both the Schwinn Mark II and Mark III are lighter than the discontinued Mark I, utilizing a tough aluminum chassis with an 'outrigger' frame that protects the 20" pneumatic wheels from damage. These two trailers are virtually identical in their weight and dimensions, with the exception that the Mark III is heavier and longer when the 16" fixed front wheel is attached. Both these Schwinn bike trailers attach to bicycles with a simple universal coupler, and the conversion from bike trailer to jogging stroller requires no tools. A retractable, zippered rain shield covers the ventilated front canopy so your passengers or parcels don't get soaked.

Like all of Schwinn's bicycle trailers, the Mark III is back up by a limited 5-year warranty.

Bottom Line: Bike trailer / jogging stroller conversions are gaining popularity, though there are still only a few notable models on the market. The Schwinn Mark III is one of the most affordable convertible options currently available; some other convertible trailers cost twice as much or more. If your objective is a bike trailer / jogging stroller that won't damage your pocket, the Mark III will suit your needs . . . but don't expect a lot of frills like a suspension system or a padded seating area. If you would like to survey your convertible stroller options before buying, check out the Schwinn Joyrider or the Chariot Cheetah 2, two dual passenger trailers that are more expensive but packed to the gills with features and options.

Great Bike Trailer and Jogger for the Money.

Yes their is no padding, which I knew when I bought it, but all you need to do is pad it up yourself. Who cares if it does not look sporty or have seat cushions. We saved several $100's of dollars. It easily converts from jogger to bike trailer & vice versa with no tools. It comes with the 16" jogging wheel in lieu of those dinky front wheels you see on the others. Not to mention that my 40lb 43" tall 3 1/2 yr old plus my 20lb 8 month old fit in it perfectly. It manuever's great and I can't even tell I'm towing my girls behind me. This trailer/jogger system is amazing. I use it almost every day. Be smart and save your money by getting this. Also, the conversion kits to change from bike trailer to jogger costs around $130 and this one is already attached. I am so happy right now. I am an avid runner and now I love to ride my bike. Especially now that my girls are with me. My oldest daughter says she is comfortable and she loves it when her 8 month sister falls asleep on her.

durable, good jogger

We have been using this stroller very actively for two years now. It has been great! I use it as a jogger much more than I thought, because the kids love riding in it. It is smooth and stable behind the bike and pushing it. It's true that it doesn't easily fit through doors. We haven't missed suspension, I'm guessing this is an overrated feature unless you plan to off-road. We do have a jogger with suspension, but the kids are ambivalent about this feature even though our paths and sidewalks can be pretty bumpy. I was also worried that the seats would not be supportive enough, but this has also not been a problem for us. I think our youngest was 9 months when he started riding in it. Though we use this trailer a lot, the kids are never in there for longer than an hour and we don't go very fast.

I love this bike trailer/jogging stroller. I use it several times a week for jogging, and occasionally for biking. It is very easy to change modes. It is smooth for both jogging and biking. The only drawbacks are that with two children, they sit very close together which sometimes causes fighting, and it does not fit in my apartment door without taking the wheels off and tipping it sideways. Overall a very good stroller and trailer, at a great value compared to other jogger/trailer combos.

I purchased this stroller because it was suppose to have more room. I should have gone with a less expensive two seater and saved myself some needed money. I have owned other two seater versions and see no difference. I regret spending that much money now.
