Our Review of the Stroll-Smart

The Stroll Smart is a hands-free jogging stroller attachment that allows you to fully enjoy jogging. It was designed by Sarah Ray-Fay, a mother who found running with a stroller uncomfortable because she couldn't swing her arms naturally. As anyone with a jogging stroller can tell you, holding onto the handlebar all the time causes a lot of discomfort for serious runners and joggers. After speaking with other parents finding the same problem, she invented and applied for the patent of the Stroll Smart.

JPMA Innovation Award Winner!

The design itself is simple. It takes only a few seconds to get everything ready to go. Just attach the push bar to the stroller, clip on the safety strap and you have a complete hands-free jogging stroller that is also safe. The Stroll Smart reduces arm and back fatigue and increases comfort and safety while running. In 2006, the Stroll Smart won an award from the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association for innovation.

The lightweight adapter fits every jogging stroller; it has a quick-release mechanism, spring loaded action, a comfortable and expandable belt and a high visibility reflective strip. Once you try the Stroll Smart, you won't want to jog without it.

The Stroll Smart features two sizes:

  • Small/Medium fits waists 24" - 32"
  • Medium/Large fits waists 32" - 42"

Great Product and Service

This is not only a great product but the service is outstanding. I lost the screw for the clasp for my Stroll-Smart and was quickly sent out another one when I contacted the company.

Pros & Cons ... Running with Twins

3
Reviewer: Anonymous , Richmond, VA Date: August 27, 2007
I run every day with my 20-month-old twins (weight with double stroller about 70+ pounds). I have used the Stroll-Smart bar for a little over 3 months. And while in the beginning I hated it, I use it now with confidence every day. As my twins continue to grow, I can only imagine that I will use this product more and more as it really helps me move easier. When asked, I tell people I like it 70-85% of the time I use it. I agree with most reviews on this product ' a great idea but definitely takes a lot of getting use to ' especially if using a double jogger. If you are a dedicated runner ' this is possibly a great product for you (as long as you can get past the extra heat the neoprene belt induces). My husband who only runs with the twins once a week doesn't like it saying it is too awkward for him. And just a side note, when my husband and I go running together, he must jog behind or in front because running with the Stroll-Smart bar can be a little challenging and I can't always control the stroller perfectly. I agree with 'Reviewer: Anonymous, Orange County, CA ' on his review in several different areas. It can make the steering erratic, but with practice you will sense problems and learn how to correct. I also agree with him that heat management is a problem. The belt is thick and does not allow for airflow. I guess you give and take on some things depending on your needs. However, here are the items I disagree on: After 1-2 weeks of practice using the Stroll-Smart, I believe my running is faster. The allowance of arm pumping is great, especially going up hills. I find I am able to run longer and harder when I can use my arms. I also don't have a problem with the mounts because I don't have anything else on the handlebar except a handbrake. (Granted I am pushing a double stroller ' so I have more real estate to work with.) I certainly agree with others concerns on the safety of the Stroll-Smart bar and being attached to the stroller in an emergency situation. This is a potential problem. And last but not least, he is absolutely correct, the Stroll-Smart bar makes a ton of noise. Every single movement, every position change, caused the interior to squeak. It has been hard at times to hear my children talk to me during a run, but at the same time it has warned other trail runners of my approach ' which has saved me from yelling 'runner on left' every few minutes. I give it 3 out of 5 stars because I believe the Stroll-Smart bar is a great idea for some and not so great for others. Happy Running!

After my second child was born I was worried about being able to keep my running up. Until I found Stroll Smart. It is great to be able to pump my arms while running and of course as any mom knows it is always a bonus to have your hands free. I run with the adapter every day. I have a double BOB stroller and it works wonderfully.I have been running with my Stroll Smart for about 6 months now and I highly recommend it!

What a relief!

I have used strollsmart now for about 3 weeks and love it. I like to brisk walk and jog and the experience was so much better using the adaptor. I instantly felt relieved because I could swing my arms naturally and pushing the stroller was no longer a hinderance. One important thing was to make sure my front wheel was tracking straight...this really helped the stroller veer less if at all. I also found that after several uses with the strollsmart that I got into a groove and could shift my body a little bit to guide the stroller. It truly is so much better to exercise with the adaptor than without.

Many drawbacks.

Reviewer: Anonymous , Orange County, CA Date: January 08, 2007
I have run with this several times since buying it for Christmas. Great idea in principle but there are a lot of negatives. 1) It makes the stoller's steering erratic. Small movements cause it to angle left or right, and I have frequent close calls with objects (or veer off into traffic) at a rate of about 1/minute (!). To recover, you must grab the handlebars or shift your weight TOWARD the hazard so the stroller steers away. My wife, a less experienced runner, tested it and probably won't even use it. 2) The running is slower. It should be faster because you swing your arms, but I spend more time breaking stride and running at an angle to correct my off-course wanderings (see #1). 3) It is less stable. I of course haven't tested this, but I am now attached to the stroller in an awkward position. If I trip and fall (much more likely given item #1, does it break off, or do I take my baby over with me?). 4) Heat management is more difficult. With the band around your body you don't get as much airflow. And it's tough to take off or add a jacket mid-run. 5) Part of it is easy enough to remove, but the mounts (which are tougher to remove) are using up valuable real estate on your handlebars. I have other gear mounted (drink holder, bell) so I have to grab the mounts when I run without the StrollSmart and it's not comfortable. 6) I worry about safety, being attached. If I got into an emergency situation, I really wonder how quickly I could get myself and/or my baby out of harm's way. 7) It makes a fair amount of noise. It clicks as you change position, and the cylinders make noise that sound vaguely like my baby's wimpering. You have to check from time to time to see if anything is wrong. Net: buy this if you have physical problems pushing your jogger and you run on a wide, safe, flat, uncrowded course. I haven't taken it to a race but I'm worried I might run into other people.

Awesome!

After using the stroll-smart adaptor on my BOB Stroller for the past 2 weeks I have found it allows me to walk and jog with a more natural position and the neoprene belt reminds me to tighten my abs constantly whilst supporting my back.

I used to push the stroller ahead and then run to catch up to give my arms a rest but now I can work my core muscles and feel like I am getting a better workout without the hunching shoulders and broken strides.
The overall quality is excellent, assembly is simple and the adaptor can be easily removed when not in use. I would recommend this product to anyone.
