Our Review of the Strollometer Strollometer

The Strollometer is such an innovative speed and distance measuring device that it won an Innovation Award from the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) in April of 2006 -- immediately after it hit the market. The inventors of the Strollometer created a device that works for any and every wheeled device out there AND is the first speed and distance gauge to be totally wireless.

The wireless Strollometer has a whole bunch of useful functions: it monitors your current, average, and maximum speed; the distance you've traveled and your daily mileage, as well as the time and temperature. The Strollometer will keep track of all of these factors while you head out on a brisk run, or get your exercise through everyday use like running errands and strolling the neighborhood.

The Strollometer only has three wireless components: a console, a sensor, and a magnet. The magnet attaches with an adhesive backing to the wheel of your stroller, jogger, bicycle, bike trailer, or lawnmower (if you like); the sensor -- a small device at the end of an opposable 'arm' that attaches the the leg or fork above the wheel -- hangs next to the wheel, detecting every pass of the magnet as you move; and the two-button console can display two of these 8 functions at a time:

  • Speed( mph/kmh)
  • Maximum speed
  • Average Speed
  • Trip distance
  • Trip time
  • Daily Mileage
  • Temperature (F/C)
  • Clock Time

The Strollometer's wireless connection eliminates the need to thread thin wires around the frame of your jogging stroller, bicycle trailer, bicycle, or horse and buggy for that matter. Parent's who want to develop and track a regular fitness routine should find it very useful in determining what they have accomplished, and what kind of goals to set for their next time out. The Strollometer is not just useful to new mother's trying to get back into shape. Moms, dads, and grandparents who like to maintain an active lifestyle will find this wireless device extremely useful in tracking and maintaining their exercise goals.

Easy Set-Up Great Performance

I downloaded directions for installing the Strollometer on my BOB. It was extremely easy to do and the programming was very user friendly. I've been using the Strollometer for about a month now and I'm thrilled with all its features and performance of this little gadget. It works great on all surfaces and the odometer readings are accurate (first few times I retraced my strolls with my car). I highly recommend this to anyone who owns a jogger. It seems silly to have a jogger without a Strollometer:)

Very well made. My Strollometer has consistently stood up to all my runs with my BOB on and off the road. Highly recommend this to any serious runner using a jogger. #'s are smooth, consistent and spot-on.

Only One Flaw

Reviewer: ivy , Carpinteria, CA Date: March 29, 2008
I love this product so much, I have it on my BOB and Bug. However, the computer part doesn't click onto the handlebar strap, and it falls off pretty frequently bumpy trails or a tap from an elbow. Wish I could come up with a way to make it stay in place. If I glue it to the holder, I won't be able to replace the battery. Better yet, I wish the company would make the computer part slide into its holder and click into place so it would stay put!

Comments from The Staff:

This is a great product and the solution to your problem can be solved!!! To ensure the console clicks into place, please slide the console on the handlebar strap with the tab on top, not the bottom. If the tab is on the bottom, the console will not click into place. Please give us a call at 800-887-0218 with any other questions.

Well worth it

I bought the Strollometer to attach to my Phil&Teds. First thing I noticed was that it was easier to install and program than the bike computers my husband struggled for hours with. Its well-made and has stood up to the many miles I've logged on it. I would recommend it to anyone looking to do more with their stroller than just transportation.

Great Stats!

5
Reviewer: Becky H. , Portland, OR Date: October 04, 2007
I?ve been using my Strollometer for about 6 weeks. On a press of a button, I see great stats that truly motivate me to go further and faster. Before using the Strollometer I verified my mileage with my car odometer. The Strollometer odometer reading was spot on! I called their customer service to inquire about the current speed calculation. She explained that Current speed is calculated by the # of wheel revolutions within a 3 second timeframe and is then multiplied by the diameter of my wheel. An addition of one more or one less rotation per interval will result in a speed increment. Unlike Current Speed, which measures consecutive intervals, Average Speed (as well as all odometer readings) is based on cumulative rotations and will register in .01 increments. Personally I like to keep my display on the current and average speed mode. This way I can focus on current speed for acceleration/deceleration exercises and average speed to gauge my constant speed over the duration of my run! Overall I love this product, its well priced and a lot of fun to use.

Good Enough

Reviewer: Anonymous , New Paltz, NY Date: October 01, 2007
As has been mentioned before, it's not terribly accurate. It's a great idea, and good for my highly un-technical training, but the speed tracking is flawed. Even though the mph is given to one decimal place, it's really not tracked that way. The tenths decimal never changes for a mph full number. For example, if you're going somewhere in the 6 mph range, your readout will be 6.1 (or 6.something, but the same .something EVERY time) until you're over 7, then it's 7.3 or whatever. (That is, I'm *guessing* that it changes when you're over 7 - the hit point could be 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, etc.) However, my overall mileage seems to be more or less accurate - it all must even out in the process. Generally, for the price, it's still a nifty little tool that lets me know more or less how I'm doing. I wouldn't suggest it for the data-hungry, but for the casual mom or dad jogger, it's good enough.

Comments from The Staff:

Thank you so much for the review! I'm sorry to hear that the Strollometer is not all that you had expected it to be. From the sound of it, it does sound like there is some kind of glitch with the device that you have. If you give us a call, we will be more then happy to take care of that for you, and switch them out. Doesn't seem right to have a half working Strollometer!

A great addition to my stroller!

The Strollometer is a terrific way for me to gauge how much I accomplish during each run. It was easy to program and attach to my BOB. The display is clear, the stats relevant, and the overall design is solid. For an item under 50 bucks, I?m impressed.
