Great stroller but surprising problems

Reviewer: Anonymous , Brooklyn, NY Date: July 20, 2007
I bought the 2005 model when it was on sale here and was excited about getting such a great deal. I had already tried out my friend's model and knew it was a great stroller and exactly what we were looking for. We started using it when my son was 3 months old and he immediately seemed very comfy in it. It steers wonderfully and I love that I can push it with one hand while walking the dog with the other! We live in NYC and it has been great so far. HOWEVER we have been having some major problems with our stroller recently! A couple of months ago we suddenly noticed after it had been on a long walk that the front wheel wouldn't swivel in its unlocked position. The cylinder attached to the fork of the front wheel appeared to have gotten bent somehow. We were very puzzled as we had no idea how this happened and hadn't used it on any rough terrain or anything. Long story short, we contacted the company's US headquarters and they were very helpful and sent us a new fork w/ instructions for how to change it. We did so and now the wheel swivels again, but the installation didn't seem to work too well-the new parts were slightly different than the old ones- so on a long walk or on bumpy terrain, the entire front wheel will actually sometimes pop completely off! We are planning to contact the company about this again-obviously it's not very safe and we haven't tried jogging with it because of this. Overall, I feel that with a stroller this expensive and supposedly this well-made, we shouldn't be having these kinds of problems with normal use. If we could resolve this problem with the front wheel, I wouldn't have any other negative comments about the stroller.

MB Urban Single 07

I purchased the stroller for use on walks, and I'm very happy with it. It is super easy to push and my daughter loves it. A small locking washer was missing from the wheel when I got it which was very annoying for such an expensive stroller, but they sent it to me within a week. It is very easy to push, and great at farms and such. My major complaint is the tires. They absolutely REEK! I can't keep the stroller in my car because of the smell, and I hate using it in the mall b/c that reason. It has gotten better over the last month, but is still pretty awful. Recycling is important, but these recycled tires smell like a tar roof, yuck! Also, I wish it had a small pocket for my daughter to put a sippy in, as I've seen on other jogging strollers. Overall, a great stroller, great service worthy of the top rating it recieved from Consumer reports. Teresa PS I highly reccommend the parent drink holder from this site--very nice.

We have enjoyed the MB Urban from day one. We used it immediately with the carry cot and the car seat with adapter. We have used it for every purpose from walking, short distance and light jogging (6 miles and less) to shopping in the city or malls. Very versatile. Our recommendations for improvement include adding a drink and storage set up at the handle bars (we bought another brand separate), a hand brake and the sun shade needs to be designed for more shade coverage. We use teh sun shade cover (additional accessory) and find it gives excellent shade coverage but blocks our childs view too much. Overall we reccommend this for anyone unless you are serious runner and need a performance jogger. We are considering the MB Urban Double.

Best Stroller Ever

This is a great stroller. We started using it from the time our baby was 2 weeks old. It is easy to push on rough terrains, very lightweight. We live downtown where sidewalks and park paths can be rough, but this stroller easily hops curbs and traverses rocks without missing a beat. It's surpringly manueverable in shops, and can turn on a dime. All our family members with children love to borrow it. It does fold up small for a jogging stroller, but it still takes up a lot more space than an umbrella stroller. We usually use a tiny umbrella stroller or the baby bjorn if we're driving somewhere. But the MB Urban is a much better ride! We also bought the sun shade, which has been great now that the weather is getting warmer.

I bought the 2005 Urban Single when it was on sale from here (Great deal!). I shipped it to my friend's house in the US (I live in Canada and it's priced crazy here) and paid for the duty to Canada. The price at the end was still WAY cheaper! Pushing it is definately 5 stars! Very easy to get around. Love the swivle wheel that can lock when I'm jogging. I go on gravel too and it's great there. My son is a big boy for a 9 month old, but he's very comfy in it. Recline is great for when he's sleeping. The only downside is it is quite big. It takes up a lot of space in our mazda 3. But, we have a smaller stroller for regular outings. I'm having some trouble with the foot lock as it is sometimes hard to unlock with my foot and I have to crouch down to get to free. Other than that, extremely sturdy. Totally recommend!

Good features, but far too wide and poor quality materials

This buggy is great to 'drive'. But it's definitely NOT for the Urban setting - it takes up most of the rear of our Audi Estate and is far too wide to navigate anywhere indoors. We've had to purchase a second pushchair for this. The seat and storage area underneath are poorly made. Stitching is coming apart, straps are fraying and clips are broken after only a few month's usage. We contacted Mountain Buggy and these parts are not covered by warranty - no wonder. Not impressive for a buggy that cost as much as our VW Polo in the UK!

Comments from The Staff:

Be sure to check the width of the stroller before you buy. Materials like that are covered for 1 year here in the U.S. Additionally, this review is for a 2006 version of this stroller. See product description for list of changes to the 2007 model.

Great all around stroller

Buying the Urban Mountain Buggy was my first time buying a stroller. I am a big outdoors person and a big runner. I feel that this stroller is a great running stroller from the time the baby is a new born until the present. It is also nice for a walk and easily goes through deep sand or gravel. My son loves to ride in it. The only this I don't like about it is that the strap that goes between his legs is not adjustable so he slides down because he is too small for the strap to fit. But I feel that he is really safe and will not fall out.

I bought my Mountain Buggy this summer, and have used it alot - including during several international flights. I couldn't be more satisfied! To all you parents looking for a stroller that is lightweight, comfortable for the child and comfortable to push - get one of these!

Great stroller

We previously owned a Zooper Jazz, which was damaged during our move. We were trying to decide between the Bugaboo and the Mountain Buggy. We chose to buy the Mountain Buggy and were glad we did. The mountain buggy has large diameter tires front and rear, whereas the Bugaboo has small tires in front and large in back. The larger tires really smooth out the bumps. It is also extremely sturdy. The only downside is that it is not really convenient to stow away in a trunk of a car. We use the Mt. Buggy for strolls around the neighborhood. For excursions in the car, we take our McLaren, which is much lighter and more compact.
