Our Review of the Micralite TORO stroller

UK based Micralite Strollers has taken the light and agile Fastfold FTS stroller to the next level with the all-in-one, eye catching Micralite TORO. This bull of a baby stroller provides children with a comfortable, shock absorbent ride, one that improves on the Fastfold by offering a fully reclining seat for maximum sleepability. Parents in search of a light, maneuverable, and fashion forward urban stroller (that supports a baby from infancy to 40 lbs.) will definitely get a charge from the versatile Micralite TORO.

  • The Micralite TORO was a distinguished finalist in the 2007 JPMA Innovation Awards

BENEFITS FOR MOM & DAD

Like its predecessor the Micralite Fastfold FTS, the new Micralite TORO rides on a light aluminum frame with 12" air filled wheels in the rear and wide set swivel wheels up front. This unique configuration makes the TORO stroller extremely easy to maneuver, and allows it to fold up extra tight and even stand on its own once folded. It is also available in a range of vibrant colors.

Rolling down the street with child on board or stored with ease in your closet or trunk, the Micralite TORO stroller is the epitome of contemporary style and convenience. Its mix and match TORO Seat Liners are a fantastic way to customize the look and feel of the TORO.

Convenience

The TORO stroller from Micralite has a range of features that any on-the-go parent can appreciate, from the simple one-handed folding mechanism to the unique sliding recline for the seat. The patented Fastfold action offered by this Micralite stroller brings the front wheels in tight to the frame for one of the tightest folds in its class. You'll only need one hand to fold the stroller, and it locks when folded and stands on its own for easy storage in a corner or closet.

The TORO's lightweight (just 18.75 lbs.) and its relatively high weight capacity of 40 lbs. allow you to transport a child in the TORO from infancy up until he or she is 3-4 years old. No matter what your baby's age, the multiple recline positions offered by the TORO's uniquely balanced sliding seat system are the key to keeping your kid comfortable. Its easy maneuverability and extra-tight turning radius make the TORO a must for city streets or the cramped aisles of your local shopping center.

Included accessories with the Micralite TORO:

  • All-weather hood with zip on rain cover
  • All-weather insulated boot
  • Underside storage basket
  • Air pump

In addition, for that pram look and feel for your TORO stroller, the Micralite Newborn Carrycot is available with the purchase of the Micralite TORO Newborn System

Pushability

Few strollers are as easy to get around with as the uniquely designed aluminum 'pushchairs' from the UK's Micralite. The wheel configuration is truly distinct, offering increased stability and a tight turning radius. While not equipped with shocks or an adjustable handlebar (the handle is set at 38") the air filled wheels and padded handle grips ensure a smooth, comfortable stroller experience for both you and your baby.

Compatibility

The TORO Car Seat Adapter makes the Micralite TORO compatible with these infant car seats:

  • Graco Snugride
  • Graco Safe Seat (Step 1)

BENEFITS FOR JACK OR JILL

The padded seat and sliding recline offered by the Micralite TORO are an improvement over the more 'bare-essentials' Micralite Fastfold's sling seat and 140 degree recline. While the TORO may carry a little more weight than the ultra-light Fastfold, the TORO takes all of what made the Fastfold great and adds a 180 degree reclining seat with thicker padding.

Comfort

The Micralite TORO stroller has the same basic frame design as the Fastfold FTS but with one modification: while the Fastfold seat had a limited seat recline, the new TORO offers a suspended seat with a unique sliding function that allows for multiple recline options and, best yet, a full recline for maximum relaxation.

For babies and toddlers up to 40 lbs. the padded seat and air-filled tires of the TORO provides for a comfortable ride. The entire seat is well shaded by the large sun canopy.

Safety

  • ASTM safety certified
  • 5-point safety harness
  • Parking brake
  • Bumper bar

COMPARISON

The natural comparison to the Micralite TORO would be the Bugaboo Cameleon, or perhaps even the new, lighter Bugaboo Bee. The Cameleon is heavier than the TORO, has an equivalent weight capacity, but can be a pain to store because takes several steps to fold and breaks down into two pieces. The Bugaboo Bee is lighter than the TORO, and just as maneuverable, but the Bee's small rubber wheels do not offer the shock absorptive qualities of the TORO's 12" pneumatic rear tires.

LOVE My Micralite Toro!

5
Reviewer: Anonymous , New York, NY Date: April 02, 2008
I have been using our Toro for several months now and walk miles daily on the NYC streets. Before buying I did the typical exhaustive, best-for-my baby parent search. I am very pleased with my choice. Compared to others: Toro is lighter, has pneumatic rear wheels, drives great, actually folds w/o having to remove anything, reclines FLAT so can be used from birth (in my opinion) with a head support and no extra bassinett, love the handlebar as you can drive one handed but also hang thing occasionally, cool weather cover. It also comes with an all weather foot muff which is great for spring/fall, though you need a heavier Bundle Me type for winter weather. Some small cons: rain cover is great for cold, but (like Maclaren covers) doesn't go over canopy); basket is a bit small; can't reverse baby to look at you (though I have never wanted to do this after a few months anyway so doesn't bother me). Although it is super easy to fold, it is still a bit too heavy to do this with one hand while holding baby in the other, but I can't imagine any real jogger can do that. Finally, as to your feet hitting tires. It does take a day or two to get your stride. Doesn't happen for me at 5'2, but does for my 6'0 husband. We just carry a tiny allen wrench on the stroller and reverse so handle faces out when he drives. This takes about 10 seconds and my 6 year old can do it. Overall, I could not be happier with my choice!

Micralite Toro

There are a lot of things I love about this stroller. Even though it is light weight the construction is very solid. The fold and unfold is great. My only negative is that the rear wheels are relatively close together and if you are a long strider, you may find yourself kicking the tires.
