Our Review of the phil&teds doubles kit - sport

The phil&teds doubles kit for the sport and hammerhead buggies lets you double your buggy with just a click! If you plan to add a second passenger to your phil&teds sport buggy or your phil&teds hammerhead buggy you'll need the doubles kit. It attaches to the back of your stroller, allowing one child to ride safely in the rear and another to sit in the main seat.

NOTE: This is the rear seat and attachments, only. The phil&teds sport and hammerhead strollers must be purchased separately.

The doubles kit has these functions:

  • Add a smaller child behind the seat. The second seat capacity is 33 lbs in this position.
  • The doubles kit slides in where the traditional seat sits, while reclining the original seat flat to accommodate an infant. The second seat can support up to 44 lbs when installed up front.
  • The doubles kit for the sport and hammerhead baby strollers partially reclines for naptime.

Like that? Love these! Adapt the doubles kit to an infant bouncer with the phil&teds lazyted baby bouncer. And stroll no matter the weather with the phil&teds UV sunny days mesh cover and the phil&teds stormy weather cover.

Awesome Stroller

Reviewer: Anonymous , Brooklyn, New York Date: June 09, 2008
The Phil and Teds is a great stroller. With any stroller, and the rising prices of strollers as they get fancier, and become more of a fashion statement you have to think about how you're going to use it as well as how it functions. The Phil and Teds is a great stroller overall, but I have to say that you will really appreciate it in an urban setting. The selling features for me were the weight capacity, being able to remove the second seat when it's no longer needed, and the fact that it's narrow. My now four year old and now 17 month old fit well even with winter gear on. The air filled tires absorb the weight, so I don't feel like I'm pushing 2 heavy children plus the weight of the stroller. Living in NYC I love the fact that this stroller can take anything. It pushes through snow, it's sturdy on a windy day, and the delight is that it fits inside of small stores and boutiques. The panier bags gives you plenty of storage. They don't look like much online, but the 2 of them hold a ton of stuff. I've carried your typical diapering things, change of clothes, lunch, and a small blanket in one bag, and used the other for balls and toys for the park. When I'm not carrying 2 children between the panier bags, the basket underneath, and the empty back seat; it hauls all of my groceries, and department store things. Best feature-when the older child outgrows the stroller, or you just don't need a double that day, take the second seat off, and you're not stuck with a useless double. If this stroller works great for me in the city I can only image how easy it would've been if I were still living in a suburban setting pushing it through a mall, or at the beach.

Reclining doubles kit was a dissapointment

Reviewer: Anonymous , Phoenix, AZ Date: October 06, 2007
I have had the Phil and Ted's E3 and doubles kit for over a year and I love it. I was excited to see the new doubles kit with the recline feature. When I received it I was dissapointed that the recline feature will only work for a very small infant. The bar behind the childs head makes the recline feature inoperable for a child over a few months old.

Good but one big flaw for us...

Reviewer: Aaron , Chicago, IL Date: September 18, 2007
We were excited by the prospect of a sturdy, nice looking double stroller that was narrow enough to not dominate the sidewalk (like a Hummer dominates the road!). For the most part the Phil and Teds met our expectations. The big flaw, at least for us, was that when we had to go somewhere in the car with the P&T, we were forced to take our 1 month old son in and out of his infant carseat when arriving/departing, waking him up on both ends of the trip (and robbing us of the great calming effect of strolling and driving!). Yes, the P&T's accepts a carseat but not when used as a double with a child that is too big (like our 2.5 year old daughter) for the lower seat/doubles kit. So, I would definitely recommend the Phil and Ted's for families with one child or with two that are a bit closer in age than newborn and 2.5. When they're closer in age, you can really take advantage of the P&T's flexibility. For us, we returned the P&T and went the "Hummer route"--we purchased a double Mountain Buggy with carseat attachment--which we love.
