Our Review of the phil&teds sport buggy

Direct from New Zealand comes the sporty inline, the phil&teds sport buggy. The sport sets the standard for phil&teds strollers with smooth swivel wheel design, the versatility of a reclining second seat, rugged dependability, and an adjustable height handle.

Or get funky with the sport in the graffiti pattern. Featuring an edgy, graffiti-art pattern and coming complete with the doubles kit, the phil&teds sport buggy lets you stroll with edge. And because the graffiti fabric is cut at different points, each phil&teds graffiti stroller is truly unique.

Standout Features:

  • Adapts to the newest additions to the family by converting to a slim tandem double stroller
  • 4 position contour seat reclines flat
  • Multi-position adjustable handle for those tall and taller
  • Foot operated parking brake

With the right phil&teds accessories, the sport buggy has four possible modes:

  • Single baby stroller
  • Single toddler stroller
  • Double baby and toddler stroller
  • Double toddler stroller

Benefits for You: The quite amazing phil&teds sport is a single stroller that is ideal for parents that are planning to have a second child. Since most parents will have a second child within a few years of their first, you can understand why this stroller is so popular.

Use the phil&teds doubles kit for the sport to convert the sport stroller from a single seater to a two passenger tandem double stroller, allowing your baby and toddler to ride together. With the phil&teds travel system car seat adapter your newborn can ride up front in the safety of their infant car seat. The car seat adapter cannot be used with the doubles kit attached.

The underside basket has room for extra goods, but must double as a footrest when the sport doubles kit is attached. If you need extra storage, get the phil&teds blazing saddles buggy pannier bags. Add the phil&teds thirsty work cup holder to always have a spot for your water bottle.

Fold the phil&teds sport buggy down to a convenient size and use the up & away travel bag to easily transport the stroller.

Compatibility: With the phil&teds travel system the sport accepts the following infant car seats:

  • Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30
  • Graco SnugRide
  • Graco SnugRide 32
  • Maxi Cosi Mico
  • Chicco Key Fit

Benefits for Baby: Kids big or small ride in absolute comfort and safety in the phil&teds sport. Both the doubles kit seat and sport seat are well padded. The main seat reclines flat for when they get sleepy. The doubles kit seat reclines, too, ensuring that each passenger rides comfortably.

The sun canopy provides ample shade in most positions; however, when used with the double kit with the newborn in the flat position and the toddler in the second seat, the sun shade is a tight fit over your older child.

Soup up your baby's ride with the phil&teds snuggle & snooze sleeping bag, which keeps toes toasty on cold days. The phil&teds buggy bunny seat liner adds extra cush for the tush. Keep passengers happy no matter the weather with the phil&teds UV sunny days mesh cover and the phil&teds stormy weather cover.

Safety:

  • 5-point safety harness
  • Foot brake
  • Meets international safety standards

Comparison: The sport baby stroller blends rugged off-road dependability and proven functionality. For a simplified and thriftier version of the sport consider the phil&teds classic buggy. While the classic lacks the multi-position adjustable handlebar and reclining second seat of the sport, the low price-tag is hugely attractive.

P and T are so great for ingenuity and convenience. We have their tent/travel bed which has been great, but this stroller didn't meet my expectations. What a great idea though - lightweight, not as cumbersome as other double strollers. The workmanship is questionable - one of the snaps became bent so it doesn't hold in place the canopy. We were very close to the max in weight for both kids and my 8 month old got a bit claustrophobic with her almost 40 pound brother sitting on top - it just sat too low for her comfort. The brake is hard to maneuver - have to use my hands to get it to work - bending over. I only used it twice and just used my Schwinn stroller for walks/runs. The canopy on the P & T doesn't cover much area as well. I love Phil and Ted's products, but this one fell short.

Comments from The Staff:

Thank you so much for taking time to share your thoughts on the phil&teds sport buggy with us! For the issue you are experiencing with the canopy snaps, if you have had your buggy for less than one year, it is still under warranty and we recommend contacting phil&teds customer service for a replacement. You can reach phil&teds via email at uscare@philandteds.com or by phone at (800) 890-9425. The inline design of the stroller is unique and many children enjoy the seating position, however it is a personal preference whether children find it comfortable or not, and we?re sorry to hear that your child is not comfortable with it. As for the brake, the manufacturer designed it to be a little difficult to set because of the inline design, to prevent the child sitting in the back from accidentally setting the brake. Also, we will forward your comments on to the manufacturer about the sun canopy. We believe this may be something they are looking to improve on for the future.

Thanks!

-Melissa T.

My mom bought us this stroller when my first son was about 10 months old. I wish I had it from the beginning. Now, I have two kids and it is even better! We have had this stroller for almost 2 years and I use it for everything. It does not fold up very small, no sturdy stroller does, but it does fold pretty flat. One reviewer wrote that it is great for the mall but not so great for running. It is important to know that it is not a jogging stroller (and it says in the owner's manual) but it is an insult to call it a mall stroller. Not only does this stroller stand up to most terrains from the smooth to the extremely bumpy, but it is so versatile. I can still use it as a single stroller, and even when it is a double stroller, I can still maneuver it through doorways and tight spaces. I love it!

I shopped and shopped for a double stroller. I had heard great things about this stoller but tried to find something cheeper. I finally sucked it up and bought it. I am so glad i did. It is so smooth and turns so sharp. I have a toddler and a infant and i can't say enough good things about it. One more thing i have a kia sportage and it fits nicely, also fits in the trunk of a car.

1 Year Later

I don't know why I got fixated on this stroller but I had to buy online ( we live in the middle of nowhere) so I did a ton of research and really liked what I heard about this. Needless to say I could definitely have spent my money more wisely. This stroller is fine for cruising the mall - which we rarely do, and for tall parents, though I am 5'10" and my husband 6'3" and it still isn't great for a long stride like when running. I guess if you had two kids in a stroller this might be good but I don't. My son seems to sit to low in the seat and I can't get the back straight up and down enough where he could actually see well. My son is 1 year old, approx. 25lbs. I wish I would have gotten a BOB, a Kolcraft Jeep Overland or a Schwinn and have considered trying to sell this but I know I will lose money. Please really consider your purchase and don't just by the brand.

We are replacing our single BOB SUS D'lux with this stroller b/c we have a 2 year-old and are expecting a baby. We live in a small city in Montana and use our stroller daily for a combination of walking to shops, library, and on trails and in parks. Performance-wise, this stroller is way way way below the BOB SUS. The frame is clicky (the handlebars wobble) and the small wheels leave a lot to be desired when it comes to snowbanks and trails, etc. The sport title is a joke--you will never jog with this stroller. I am 5'8" and my feet hit the rear axle as I walk. The BOB has a lot more (and more convenient) storage. However, the doubles kit is clever and there really isn't anything else like it on the market. Our 2 year-old climbed right into it in both positions. I anticipate using the doubles seat in the rear well before baby#2 is 6 months--the seat really is too small for our 2 year-old for more than just quick trips around town. You wouldn't want any child so low to the ground in any kind of snowy winter. Ultimately, I anticipate purchasing a used double jogger with 16 or 20 inch wheels as a winter stroller and keeping this one for when we have to go inside, travel, and summertime.

Great double buggy for toddler and baby

5
Reviewer: Anonymous , swansea, uk Date: January 02, 2009
A great double buggy if you have a toddler and a new baby. Our toddler was plenty old enough to walk and could walk for miles IF he wanted to. However with the terrible twos and general insecurity of becoming a big brother we needed the option of being able to push him/strap him in if he was refusing to go anywhere - and this works well. It is really flexible if you get the doubles kit. We got the cacoon for the baby and if you use the pram alone that means you can lie the baby flat facing you. If you use it with the toddler as well they kind of sit on top of the baby - but both are very comfortable. We have also used it with just the baby in the main seat reclined - it reclines to a flat position which is great when they are little. We have also used it with the doubles seat on the back. It says to only put baby in from 6 months but as the new doubles seat reclines then she was fine from 3 months but is a big baby. She fitted in the cacoon until 4 months (but was 18 pounds at 4 months and growing out of 6 - 9 month sleepsuits). Toddler is a tall heavy boy - he is 2.5 years now and fits fine in the main seat. He wouldnt really fit in the back seat and was slightly awkward looking in the front doubles seat but ok. However he wears size 3 - 4 clothes and is growing out of those (I have big babies!) so most toddlers would be fine. The first time the toddler saw it he shouted my new buggy, wow and climbed in! Strangers often comment on it as its so compact and lovely looking. Can be pushed with one hand. Light for a double - easy to put in boot of car Folds easily once you know how to do it Can be pushed easily around shops and through doors unlike some doubles. Downsides - very few. Some people think baby is too close to floor in doubles mode but I dont think so. Straps are a bit flimsy and cheap looking but do the job. The brake leaver seems a bit flimsy and is difficlt to put on but again does the job. Cannot hang your shopping from the handle (but maybe a good thing). Once baby is bigger there is little room for shopping but you can get bags for it.

A complete nightmare!

Ughhh....I was so excited about getting the 2008 Phil & Ted's SP, then it arrived at my home.....the idea is great but the workmanship is surely not. What a concept to have four different ways to carry the tot(s) around but try putting the brake on - not easy and near impossible with a little one in the doubler seat or if you have shoes or boots on! It's great that there are different adjustments to put a tot down to nap, but try putting him or her back in an upright position! It's really not easy, and very cumbersome and jarring for the little one. One of the worst bits of workmanship was the design for folding the stroller. There is no way you're going to be able to do it without chewing up the push handle as there is barely a way to do it without scraping it on the ground. The tiny, and I emphasize tiny, buttons you have to hold and turn and push in to fold it is another real winner. Speaking of tiny, the fasteners on the harness are made for a child's fingers, not adults. This stroller is full of tiny, flimsy plastic parts that will surely break and a fabric foot step that has no way of being taken off to be cleaned (think of muddy shoes - yikes!). The double seat now has a reclined position, one that once is reclined will leave your child hitting their head on the bar. Try putting the seat in the toddler front position and their head will be hitting the sun canopy. For a VERY expensive stroller this should have been made with more quality and with plain old better thinking and design!!! We're going to try a Bob as we've seen good reviews for their strollers. Bottom line, this stroller is a fabulous idea, but in reality the stroller just isn't worth a dollar until MANY kinks are worked out, better materials are used and a better design is implemented. What a HUGE disappointment!

Big disapointment!!

I bought the Phil and Teds Sport a week ago and I am already regretting it!! I bought it for my newborn baby. Had to buy the car seat attachment which only clips in on one side so while walking you can hear it sligtly moving around on the one side. With car seat in place there is no sun coverage for the baby cover is way to small. The peek a boo window is right at handlebars so when I look at my baby I can't see him only the carseat. The mechanism to change front wheel is frustrating you have to get on the floor and turn it until you get the pin in not good for those without perfect vision!! Opening and closing stroller is challenging!! I am a big walker and I am dissapointed with how this handles my older graco was better and for a jogging stroller I wish I bought the Bobs!!!
